At New York Ballroom, we offer specialised courses designed to enhance your technical skills in a focused and structured environment. Unlike social dance classes, where the emphasis is often on fun and interaction, these courses delve deeper into the intricate techniques that can be challenging to master in a social setting. Each course is categorised by dance style, offering focused instruction that's the perfect progression for dancers who want to advance their skills beyond the basics learned in social classes.
Our structured courses focus intensively on a specific dance style, allowing for a more thorough understanding of the key elements that make a dancer truly competent. Over the course of 12 weeks, you'll work through a set combination of steps, with an emphasis on mastering foot patterns, footwork, alignments, lead and follow, characteristics, technique and floorcraft. This in-depth approach ensures that you not only learn the movements but also understand the underlying techniques that bring grace and precision to your dance.
Repetition and routine consolidation are key benefits of our 12-week courses. By revisiting and refining each element regularly, you'll develop a solid base pattern for each dance style that can be easily adapted and expanded upon in social dance settings.
Once you've built a strong technical foundation, our social classes will help you broaden your choreography repertoire with additional figures and steps, allowing you to fully explore and enjoy the art of dance. This perfect combination of Medal-level technique and social dance versatility ensures that you gain both the skill and confidence to shine on any dance floor, dancing effortlessly with partners of all levels.
The Examination
An important point to note is that it is NOT mandatory to do the assessment; many people partake in the classes just as a learning experience.
However, for those who like a challenge, a goal to work towards, this gives you the opportunity to strive to improve. Additionally, it provides a platform to showcase your progress and perform in front of an audience, adding an exciting dimension to your dance journey.
Our assessment program's first level is Bronze, then Bronze Elite, Silver, Silver Elite, Gold, then on to Gold Star Elite, Premier Star with Oscar as the ultimate Medal level. Each level not only marks a significant achievement in your dancing career but also motivates you to refine your technique and expand your repertoire.
